|The Birth of the Aegean Blues|
Apostolos M. Antonopoulos, PE
The Aegean Blues are a Greek band composed of a father and his three sons. The band includes Johny, age 18 on bouzouki and clarinet; Alex, age 20 on bass and lead vocals; Milti, age 22 on drums; and Apostolos, (slightly older) on guitar.
The four started playing together about 14 years ago, when they took one room and made it the Music Room. There were various instruments in the room left over from the father’s musical career. The father Apostolos (aka Paul) had played with the Greek band Zephyros in the 70's, but retired from music when the family came along.
Whenever they felt like it, they would get together in the Music Room and play simple songs that Apostolos composed. Johny, age 4 at the time, played a toumbek. Milt and Alex played guitars. Apostolos played the bouzouki.
There never had a schedule.
They just played when the felt like it, for as long as they all wanted to.
They play different instruments now but the Aegean Blues are still playing.
